Red Barn Chamber Music is a non-profit organization that aims to bring the best musicians from across the country to play in historic venues in Iowa. It was founded in 2015 by Mark Bernat and had its first annual barn concert in the Secrest Octagonal Barn in September 2015.
Red Barn Chamber Music concerts are supported by donors and are free to the public. The Red Barn Chamber Music series has expanded beyond the walls of the barn into Iowa City at the Old Capitol Senate Chamber, another of Iowa's historic buildings.
The barn was constructed in 1883 by George Frank Longerbeam, who was an untrained builder. It was built for Joshua Hunt Secrest, a local farmer. On November 5, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
